We are going to get F-ed over for Christmas

I am asking all the smart people I know what I can do to avoid it.

We were profoundly thrilled back in the fall when my husband Bear got a job locally driving a cab. Not a lot of money, but anything is better than nothing, and once you have a job, you can get another much more easily.

Just before Thanksgiving, around 1 am, as he drove through town, someone blew a stopsign and hit the cab he was driving.

No one blames him. He was not at fault, and there would be no problem, as he is listed as a driver on the cab company's insurance.

Except the cop wrote down the wrong numbers.

So now, Bear's DMV record says "Had accident while driving without insurance". Which is what they know until the insurance company gets back to them on that.

Which they have not done. This is a matter of look it up on the computer and call your client.

Bear's license will be suspended at the end of December. This is not something I want to have happen. He drives, that's what he can do. Until this is cleared up, he can't get any other jobs.

I have been patient. I'm being assured that the people at the cab stand are calling twice a day. But you know what? This is MY chance for insurance and moving back into my own little house and paying the utilities and being able to buy underwear and stop sewing up the holes in what I have. I'm done waiting for someone else to do something here.

So I'm going to call tomorrow and find out what insurance company holds the cab company's policy. What I want you people to do is to suggest to me how to apply pressure to get the results disgorged before we have to pay money we don't have to get his license back. Call a state office? Call a congressman?

I am thankful in advance for any ideas.
